Robert Olson is the founder of R.D. Olson Development, a Newport Beach, California-based firm engaged in the development of commercial properties nationwide with a specific focus on hotels and resorts. He established the company in 1997 following nearly 20 years as founder and CEO of R.D. Olson Construction.
Mr. Olson guides the strategic vision for R.D. Olson Development. He works closely with his design and development teams providing valuable input for concepting, marketing, investment analysis, capital structures, planning and entitlements, budgeting, and constructability, all with a focus on achieving guest satisfaction. R.D. Olson Development is recognized for its ability to identify and act on opportunities, delivering solid execution through all phases of entitlements, design and development while maintaining focus on the business strategy and the bottom line.
The majority of the firm’s hotel developments have occurred in the Western U.S. and Hawaii, though Mr. Olson has built projects on a nationwide basis. A specialist in developing hospitality properties, the firm is also experienced in the development of office, retail, multifamily and recreational projects. Mr. Olson’s longstanding experience as a builder has proven to be highly beneficial for development projects.
Robert Olson has been recognized as a business leader and entrepreneur on numerous occasions. He was selected as Marriott International “Developer of the Year” in 2017 and 2014, and was named the 2016 Robert Mondavi Wine & Food Award winner. He has also been the recipient of Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year award, Boy Scouts of America’s Good Scout Award, Construction Financial Management Association’s Construction Executive of the Year and the Orange County Business Journal’s Excellence in Entrepreneurship award. He was recognized as a 2012 Hotel Icon by Real Estate FORUM magazine, and is a frequent speaker at leading industry events. Mr. Olson is an MBA graduate of the University of Southern California.

For the past 20 years, Ned Sherman has devoted his career to innovation and entrepreneurship in the creative and technology industries as a successful entrepreneur, media executive and business owner, and trusted advisor and legal counsel to entertainment, media and technology companies.
He is currently Partner, Entertainment, Media & Technology, Manatt Phelps & Phillips LLP, Director of Manatt Digital, the firm’s management consulting group, and an investor and advisor to the Manatt Venture Fund. He is also Chairman and Founder (previously CEO & Publisher) of Digital Media Wire, Inc., a marketing and strategy consulting firm representing an A-List clientele of entertainment, media and technology brands, government groups and trade associations and owner and operator of media properties and events.
He was previously Global Artist Manager and General Counsel to multi-platinum, Korean-American hip-hop artist Jay Park (now signed to Roc Nation) and has held leadership positions in several media company ventures and with a boutique digital media-focused investment banking practice, which he co-founded.
According to the Wall Street Journal, “Ned Sherman is more than the average pundit: He is an attorney and has an inside grasp of what is happening.” Sherman holds an A.B. with honors from Brown University, a J.D. from the University of Texas School of Law, and is a cohort member of the Executive Master in Innovation & Entrepreneurship program at HEC Paris.
Erik Rolland, Ph.D.

Erik Rolland, Ph.D. officially became Dean of Cal Poly Pomona's College of Business Administration on July 1, 2016 following a year-long national candidate search.
With a proven record of success in both higher-education and private industry, Rolland was a great fit for the CBA's Learn By Doing philosophy.
Prior to joining the CBA, Rolland most recently served as Interim Dean of the School of Engineering, and Professor of Management & Engineering within the Gallo Management Program at the University of California - Merced.
Since graduating with his Ph.D. in Decision Sciences & Information Systems from the Fisher College of Business at the Ohio State University in 1991, he has been on the faculty of the Anderson Graduate School of Management at University of California-Riverside, the Fisher School of Business at the Ohio State University (Columbus, Ohio), and a visiting distinguished professor with the Antai School of Management & Economics at the Shanghai Jiaotong University (Shanghai, China).
Dr. Rolland was the inaugural director of the University of California’s Heckmann International Center of Entrepreneurial Management, in Palm Desert, California, and has served as both Department Chair and Associate Dean in the Anderson Graduate School of Management at University of California at Riverside.
Erik’s research embodies a broad range of management and engineering areas, electronic commerce, service science, and modeling of complex technology and management problems. He has published more than 70 articles in academic journals and texts on information systems, technology management, operations research, leadership, and strategy. Dr. Rolland’s research is used by several large companies worldwide in their management practices, and Erik has consulted with a large number of major organizations in the United States, Canada, Asia, and Europe.
Erik is the recipient of the 2009 American Institute for Certified Public Accountant’s (AICPA) Management Accounting Research Fellowship for his work on Enterprise Risk Management, and the 2011 IBM Faculty Award for his work on understanding patent value.
Erik has over 25 years of international consulting and industry experience from organizations in a variety of industries, such as electronics, software, transportation, healthcare, telecommunications, banking, energy, oil exploration, fashion, resource management, and local and state governments. His experience covers a wide range of management and engineering areas, across organizations, cultures, and continents. He continually enjoys learning from delivering management courses and executive seminars to various audiences and organizations in the Americas, Europe, and in Asia. Erik also spends his time serving on the board of several organizations.
